This bareboat certification will allow you to rent sailboats internationally! Please keep in mind that each rental facility has its own requirements for allowing customers to rent and they may differ from what Pacific Sail requires.
This course continues to prepare the student to charter a larger wheel-steered auxiliary powered sailboat, sailing by day in coastal waters in moderate to strong wind and sea conditions.
You will continue to build and review the skills learned in the Basic Keelboat, and Basic Coastal Cruising courses.
On the first day, students will provision and plan their trip. After reviewing docking and onboard systems students will set sail that afternoon for their first anchorage in either Moss Landing or Monterey. The next morning students will have a chance to practice their navigation skills and set sail to their next destination in Moss Landing or Monterey. Students will prepare at least one dinner on board and have the option to enjoy one dinner ashore at one of the many restaurants in Monterey (the cost of dinner is not included in the price). On the morning of day three, students will have the opportunity to take their ASA 104 Bareboat exam and learn more advanced techniques while sailing back to Santa Cruz.
In most cases, when a student has completed all of our courses and they have done exceptionally well by successfully passing all of the practical requirements to Bareboat Charter, our USCG Licensed Captain can and will certify them to the ASA Bareboat level without a review /check-out. Certified sailors are required to have a crew that is competent up to ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising level of experience to charter a boat from Pacific Sail.
If you are (or think you might be) susceptible to seasickness, please obtain and use a prescription (e.g., scopolamine) or over-the-counter remedy, or pressure point wristbands (available at drugstores and marine supply stores) before departure. Please don’t wait to find out if you are susceptible to seasickness. Pacific Sail does not provide these medications.
