ASA 101 & 103
Join us for a Basic Keelboat and Basic Coastal Cruising Combination Course!
In this combination course, we will teach you the fundamentals of sailing and seamanship, go over knots, sail theory, and other topics to give you the skills and confidence you need to safely skipper and crew a 30′-32′ monohull sailboat in light to moderate wind and sea conditions on lakes or other protected bodies of water. We will then expand your sail training, coaching you in how to skipper and crew on an auxiliary powered sailboat of about 32′-36′ during daylight hours in moderate to strong wind and sea conditions. At the conclusion of the course, the student should be able to read a nautical chart and identify corresponding landmarks and aids to navigation, determine the vessel’s location, plot a course to steer, properly dock the vessel under motor power, take appropriate precautions when sailing under reduced visibility, and successfully recover an overboard victim. We recommend that students continue on to take our Bareboat Course to refine their skills and become certified to charter vessels worldwide.
